Alex.

I have recently finished this 1:18 rider doll.

She’s is fairly well articulated after much customising to reduce her size I am pretty happy.

I’m having a lot of fun just playing with her now, I have a lot of grand plans but for now I am just enjoying the fun side of the hobby

What’cha making Alex?
Crocheting a…?
Really Alex? A platypus?
Horses, Alex, we like horses.

Thoughts While Skiving

As a neurodivergent one of my key methods of making tack is sit down, work for 15 minutes and if I don’t find my vibe move on. I almost find skiving therapeutic now, I used to hate it with every atom in my body. Anyway this afternoon I sat down at my desk and started skiving and I found a space where I could almost sort out my feelings into logical thoughts.

It is satisfying in it’s own way isn’t it?

Anyway I realised a lot about the horses and my sort of boy friend. Luke, my friends off the track race horse who she has had for many years has had a rapid decline in health lately which is due to a recently diagnosed heart murmur. For now all we can really do is keep him warm and comfortable and see if the steroids help. Merlin is making exceptional progress however, I am really stoked by how much he trusts me. I (with help from a very experienced friend and fellow club member) have begun the process of starting him under saddle which is going really well and is a huge leap for me as a trainer. A year ago if you said that I would be breaking in a horse in a year I would have said you were crazy I have learnt so much but also feel overwhelmed by how much more there is to learn.

Progress.

A recent bridle with one from two years ago.

The real-life horses have been up and down recently, We lost Molly a couple of weeks before Christmas, it really was her time, she had a good life and was telling us she was ready to move on.
The club truly hasn't been the same without her around but recently I have had a new project who has tiny hooves are quickly filling some very big boots.
He is about seven years old, a complete handful and 100% cute. He was found by a couple of club members in a pretty bad way, his hooves and teeth were very overgrown and he clearly had not been handled in a while. He has had a number of trims and is doing so well. I am really enjoying working with him and learning how to train a horse, we are making amazing forward progress and I can't wait to see what the future holds for him (I would love to teach him to pull a cart.)
